Ansar Bahini was established on 12 February 1948 After the swearing in of the first Provisional Government of Bangladesh (Mujibnagar) during the War of Independence, the caretaker President was given a Guard of Honor by 12 members of the Ansar Force led by Ansar Platoon Commander Iyad Ali. During the war of independence, the Ansar forces were declared rebels and abolished. Ansar members took part in the war of independence with about 40,000 rifles. A total of 60 people including 9 Ansar officers, 4 employees and 657 Ansars were martyred in the battle.
